Of rather average tourist interest, Tralee can nevertheless serve as a well located exploration base at the entrance of the Dingle peninsula. There are few monuments to see, especially since the city was destroyed several times. But it is a good place to live and the few shopping opportunities will delight many. The city was founded by the Anglo-Norman Fitzgerald family in 1216. Then, in the 16th century, the Fitzgeralds became the Earls of Desmond. The last Earl of Desmond rebelled against Queen ElizabethI who had him executed and his head displayed in the Tower of London. Tralee was then given to Sir Henry Denny.
