Founded in the Middle Ages, the town of Tipperary ("Tip" to its friends) offers a certain amount of interest, including the satisfaction of finally arriving (!) and discovering this humorous sign: You've come a long way to Tipperary... in honor of a World War I march. A Norman motte and enclosure can still be seen to the north-west of the county's main town.
