Rathfarnham is a suburb of Dublin, nestling north of the Wicklow Mountains. It is best known for its 16th-century castle and its beautiful parkland: an ocean of greenery covering some 121 hectares. A perfect opportunity to get some fresh air and exercise just a few miles south of the Irish capital. As for the castle, it's well worth the detour. It was built to defend Rathfarnham against attacks from Irish clans in the 16th century. A visit to this township is well worth considering during a long stay in Dublin. For lovers of old stones!
