One of the best hostels in Dublin, located in a moving neighborhood Smithfield, with a young and festive atmosphere.

This hostel of the famous Generator group is the biggest in the city with no less than 530 beds. If the building which shelters the hotel is old, and even classified, the interior of the hostel is very modern and well looked. Each floor has its own decor and colourful murals. The music is always on loud; on the ground floor, there are armchairs, sofas and computers with free Internet access, a "study" area and a cafeteria. A few steps down are a bar, two pool tables and a cinema.

They took money from a lost wallet. It came back to me with zero money

Great location, but I was not a huge fan of the fact that you can hear the club from our room, and you were not allowed to bring food into the hostel. Definitely not great for long term lodging, more of a place for young people to party.

One of the lower priced hostels around. Good staff and clean. Very good location. Nicely done aesthetics in lobby and bar. Fancy!!

Pros: two chargers in bed. Big locker. 24/7 staff

Cons: absolutely no outside food or drink not even a Diet Coke in a bottle. I get they want money at bar but a lot of hostels with bars and food have a tiny kitchen area or let u have outside drinks if it’s just a bottle of something

If you're looking for an affordable city break in Dublin without luxuries then the generator is a great place to stay. Food and drink was lovely and reasonably priced. There is a tram stop that is just a 2 minute walk from the hostel, and gets you to the centre or train station in 15 minutes. We had a group of 5 and had a room all to ourselves with our own bathroom. Normally I'm not picky when it comes to where I'm sleeping, but there was only one pillow which was incredibly flat and just felt like I was sleeping without one- if the hostel had offered a rent service to pay for an extra pillow this is definitely something I would have invested in.
The main complaint for the hostel was that while we were there, there was a school trip with a large group of teenagers. Despite the hostel saying no minors in the bar after 9, there were big groups of under 18 year olds in the bar area which isn't really the atmosphere you are wanting. Also, from around 11pm-1am, they were consistently running up and down the corridors, knocking on doors and screaming at each other. I get that they have to stay somewhere, but I don't think a party hostel is the place for them. Overall, the generator did what we needed from a stay; it was clean, had great amenities and offered us a place to sleep that was convenient for getting around the city.
