The name Mora comes from the ancient word mor, which means "dense forest with moist soil". The Mora area has been inhabited since prehistoric times. The parish of Mora was probably founded in the 13th century. Originally, there was no village around the church of Mora. The only farms near the church of Mora were the rectory, the chaplain's farm and the bell farm. In 1893, Morastrand became a municipal community, and in 1908 a county. In the 1910s, Morastrand had 176 farms, 20 of which were in Lisselby. Today, this small, quiet community hardly experiences any upheaval during the year. One event, however, is that the famous Vasaloppet cross-country ski race, the longest race of its kind in the world, is held here.
