The northernmost village in Sweden. Take the E10 towards Malmberget Gällivare for 46 km, then turn left onto road 45 towards Vittangi. Karesuando is 178 km to the north. Located on the border of Norway and Finland, the northernmost village in the country offers visitors its midnight sun from May 25 to July 18.The Finnish village of Karesuvanto (about 140 inhabitants) is located on the Finnish side of the river. According to Finnish tradition, it forms one village with Karesuando (with a combined population of about 470), but they are generally considered separate villages since there is a national border between them (although both are called Karesuvanto in Finnish). The area is traditionally Finnish-speaking, and the border was drawn for political reasons in 1809, not because of a cultural or other border. Indeed, there was not even a parish boundary at that time, so the church in Karesuando was built because the old church was on the Finnish side. The influences of the school and the church have since led to cultural and linguistic differences. The Gold Rush. 120 km northeast of Kiruna, between Vittangi and Karesuando, the small village of Lannavaara, located on the river of the same name, is home to a gold mining camp open to all. One does not always come back empty-handed..
