The northernmost village in Sweden. Take the E10 towards Malmberget Gällivare for 46 km, then turn left onto road 45 towards Vittangi. Karesuando is 178 km to the north. According to Finnish tradition, it forms one village with Karesuando (with a combined population of about 470), but they are generally considered separate villages since there is a national border between them (although both are called Karesuvanto in Finnish). The area is traditionally Finnish-speaking, and the border was drawn for political reasons in 1809, not because of a cultural or other border.
