The town of Vaxholm, situated on the island of Vaxön, is named after the fortress which was established in the middle of the th century by King Gustave Vasa, in order to secure maritime access in Stockholm. The castle requiring men to monitor passages through the straits, the king invited peasants to leave their fields to settle there, exempting them from taxes on fishing and housing. Thus, Vaxholm was born in 1558, ten years after the completion of the fortress. With less than 5 000 inhabitants off season, this seaside resort is becoming a popular destination during the summer period. You can escape from Stockholmois on holiday, tourists and sunbathe in the archipelago. The city is then flowered, full of terraces and animation, and the wood of its houses like the magnificent landscape of islands and inlets surrounding it makes it a very pleasant place, where it is recommended to spend at least half a day.
