LES PLAGES DES ENVIRONS
San Pedro's pretty, secluded beaches: Menola, Ouro, Roc-Béréby, Toubaré, Tohoulou, la pointe de Taki, Monogaga...
The surrounding coast of San Pedro has beautiful, isolated and wild beaches, due to their complicated access. Indeed, a 4x4 is needed to get there, and few tourists are equipped with one. Among the most beautiful beaches are the smaller ones: Menola, Ouro, Roc-Béréby, Toubaré, Boubélé, Sekreké, Tohoulou. For the biggest, we can mention :
Taki Point. About 27 km from San Pedro by land (about 10km from San Pedro on the road to Grand-Béréby and then, after the village of Baba, 15km of track to reach the sea). It juts out into the sea about 10km west of the Digboué lagoon, has drawn a large bay of clear water totally protected and particularly suitable for peaceful bathing.
Beach of Monogaga. Wonder of wonders, mythical bay of Ivory Coast praised by Meiway in the eponymous song, it is considered the most beautiful and best sheltered of the beaches of the west coast. Located about 35 km from San Pedro on the road to Abidjan (including 11 km of track after the crossroads of Monogaga), rolling long waves, it is an exceptional spot for surfers in times of big swell. It is reputed to be home to one of the biggest baobabs in West Africa, no less than 7 m in diameter! But to reach it, it's a straightforward expedition. 4x4 obligatory. Very sandy track and strewn with ruts (bet on a two-hour trip counting wide, and if the weather is rainy, forget it).
