DONWAHI FOUNDATION FOR CONTEMPORARY ART

Artistic, cultural and educational foundation paying tribute to Charles Bauza Donwahi through his contemporary creations.
This structure dedicated to contemporary creation hosts exhibitions, artist residencies and cultural events. The Donwahi Foundation is composed of three villas whose pure minimalist lines evoke the avant-garde aesthetics of the 70's. An architectural ensemble nestled in a vast green setting, worthy of a painting by David Hockney. The foundation was created in 2008, in homage to Charles Bauza Donwahi (1926-1997), former minister of Félix Houphouët-Boigny, patron and enlightened promoter of arts and culture, which he considered as vectors of sharing and tolerance.
Estimated at more than 5,000 pieces, the Sindika Dokolo collection is the largest private African collection of contemporary art, enriched by the photographic collection of the Revue Noire. The institution has also initiated the Abidjan Arts Actuels (AAA) concept, an annual event in the form of an inventory of Ivorian creation. It regularly exhibits the works of the Ivorian photographer Ananias Léki Dago, the Cameroonian photographer Samuel Fosso, and works by contemporary African artists such as the Ivorian sculptor Jems Koko Bi.
The foundation showcases both established artists and new talent, installations and performances, youth workshops and artist residencies. It's also a wonderful place to relax, where it's nice to have a drink or work; on the terrace, in the elegant lounge bar or in the library, in absolute calm.
