This Renaissance-style house, built in 1560 by a widow of noble ancestry, is one of the oldest in the town.
One of the oldest houses in the city built in 1560 by Anne Hvide, a widow of noble descent, the second to last descendant of the famous Danish clan founded by Skjalm Hvide in the 11th century. It was an inn from 1837 to 1867, then a museum from 1915 to 1974. The house is a superb Renaissance-style half-timbered structure on three levels above a shallow cellar. The carved door to Fruestræde stands atop four steps with iron railings. You will recognize it by its beautiful ochre color.
