Former capital of the kingdom. The kings were buried in the church of St. Benoit in Ringsted before the pantheon was transferred to the cathedral in Roskilde. The city has remained a place of passage and transit ever since, due to its geographical position in the center of Seeland. The surrounding countryside is pleasant and some of the hotels are worth a visit. The station is served by both the domestic DSB network and international services (EuroCity) to Hamburg, Copenhagen, Nykøbing Falster and Odense. During the summer months, a mobile tourist office is located in the town square.
