Every day, almost 100,000 passengers pass through the Central Station. It is the main hub of the national railway network. You will find many shops, a Tourist Information Point, open Monday to Sunday from 9am to 5pm, and a cash dispenser where you can buy Danish kroner. Three other stations, Østerport, Verterport and Nørreport, mark out the transit from the city to the suburbs with the S-Tog, the equivalent of the French RER.

MÉTRO

Getting around by metro
4/5
1 review

This network is active both day and night, thanks to special services (train, metro and night buses, less frequent than during the day, about every 20 minutes instead of every 2). Most tickets can be used on all lines and transport services. Since 2020, the metro has been extended with the introduction of Ring M3. The M4 line, an extension of the Cityringen, will be extended to Sydhavn by the end of 2024. As a result, bus routes will be completely overhauled, with changes to line numbers and stops.

S-TOG

Getting around by metro

This RER or TER equivalent runs through the city centre between the central station (København H) and the harbour (Nordhavn), passing through the stations of Vesterport, Nørreport and Østerport. Frequency: roughly every 10 minutes during the day and week, every 20 minutes at weekends. A very Danish detail which shows the concern not to disorientate the user: each S-Tog has its own lane at the central station, so it is impossible to make a mistake. There are 7 lines in total, each designated by a letter. Very useful for a few trips outside Copenhagen.

FLYVEFISK

Taxi and VTC

A water taxi company established since 2004. Little by little, Flyvefisk has specialised in private transport and guided tours. A rather original way to travel freely on Copenhagen's waters and discover historical sites. It is mandatory to pre-book, then the itinerary is at your convenience. All you need is that the stop you want is suitable for the mooring of the boat. A nice blue boat with a wooden convertible cabin that can carry up to 12 people. Very practical for a group of friends or family.

SCANDLINES

Boat and ferry

Scandlines takes passengers between Denmark and Germany around 45 times a day, from Puttgarden to Rødby (departures every 30 minutes, 45-minute journey, the easiest way to travel) and from Rotstock to Gedser (more than 10 departures a day, 2-hour journey). It's best to book in advance, especially in summer (you can book online, which is cheaper than by phone or at the ticket office). If you don't want to take the ferry, you can go via Jutland, but this takes considerably longer. This option allows you to extend your stay.
