North of the Caen plain, east of Douvres-la-Délivrande, this commune of just over 2,000 inhabitants, one of the oldest towns on the Côte de Nacre, was already home to a fishing port in the 12th century. From the 19th century, when Normandy rhymes with carefree life, Lion became a seaside resort very much appreciated for its fresh air and its fine sandy beach. During the wars of 1870 and 1914, many inhabitants found refuge in the villas on the seafront, built from 1851. And despite the D-Day landings, where Lion-sur-Mer was on the front line, some of these villas have been preserved as part of our heritage.
