This spa resort of 1,300 inhabitants, popularized under communism, is distinguished by its location at the top of a ridge, just under 500 m above sea level. Its spa waters come from the lakes created by water infiltration in the salt mines, which were exploited until 1950. Several hotels and tourist infrastructures allow you to enjoy it, such as the Lacul Sarat complex or the hotel Crăiască. Many guesthouses also have small salt water baths. On the nature side, you can take a walk in the forest Crăiască, among its monumental oaks, or in the Hoteni peat bog, which is home to carnivorous plants.
