Close to the Gare du Nord station, the former prison, in operation from 1941 to 1977, is infamous for the atrocious experimental programme of re-education through torture that political opponents underwent here between 1949 and 1951. This same program, where everyone was a victim and torturer, was then applied in the prisons of Aiud and Gherla in Transylvania. A memorial has been set up there, open to the public in 2014. The premises were left almost as they were, enamelled with documents and testimonies. An emotional visit.
