From time immemorial, the activity of the village has been divided between the green valleys in which rivers and mills nestle, and the work of the mines. Some scholars point out that the name Molay is a tribute to the primary activity of its inhabitants: the mills, which once ginned along a multitude of streams. In the 1980's, some enthusiasts were frightened to see how quickly the unusual mills were falling into ruins and decided to open the Ferme-Moulin de Marcy. If the mill now has its own museum, so does the mining activity, which disappeared at the beginning of the 20th century.
