Treasure Beach is a true oasis of serenity and calm. The beaches are of a wild beauty. The coastline is jagged, with deep coves and high cliffs, the sea is sometimes violent, and nature is not very domesticated. Here, time stands still, life flows to the rhythm of the sun, in a natural harmony and serenity. We rediscover virtues such as the sense of welcome, hospitality ... We come here to devour plates of fish and seafood.Treasure Beach consists of a succession of several bays, lined with beaches and separated by rocky promontories. From east to west, Great Bay, Calabash Bay, Frenchman's Bay and Billy Bay follow one another, with Calabash and Frenchman forming the heart of the resort. The road that leads there, punctuated by small farms where a few animals sleep in pens surrounded by wooden fences, will take you through an arid and wild landscape, characteristic of this part of the island. This region is the driest of the country, here the giant cacti replace the coconut trees. At the end of this crossing, Treasure Beach: not a town, not even a village. The houses are scattered along the coast, sometimes gathered in hamlets, most often scattered and isolated at the end of stony tracks. One meets there many multicolored birds of various species. If tourism is a significant source of income, agriculture and livestock, as well as fishing, remain the basis of the local economy. The sturdy fishing boats set out each morning at dawn across the coral reef to the Pedro Keys, from where they bring back their catch at sunset. When they return, the boats are pulled across the sand by the strength of their arms and unload fish and shellfish; one of the daily scenes not to be missed. Everyone is there, onlookers, women, children,... The people in charge of the small local cooperative are there to buy the fish from the fishermen. As soon as the deals are done, they load the vans and leave to resell their batches to the restaurant owners of the big tourist centers. Here, there are few organized activities. The main occupation is to let the time go by and to take advantage of the ambient serenity to recharge one's batteries.
