Makamba city - a few thousand inhabitants - is remarkable by its situation at the crossroads of the largest roads in the South between Bururi, Mabanda and Rutana. Head of the province, it is located in the heart of a very nice site at 1 450 m above sea level. Its gently provincial atmosphere can please a few hours or a few days. It has services and equipment that compete with those of the nearby head-location, Bururi, and its extended configuration isolates small neighbourhoods with a variety of charms.Arriving from Mabanda by the RN 11, we first enter the old market area, a rectangular square surrounded by shops and lively bars. It is the historic «historic» centre of Makamba. A coast leaves this place, still occupied over a few metres by retail shops and offices (banks, police). It arrives a few hundred metres higher at the central roundabout of the city. From here the RN 17 towards Bururi (non), while the RN 11 continues to Rutana (paved). The city appears to be breaking around these axes, which delineate separate neighbourhoods. On the one hand, scattered houses (RN 11, RN 17), on the other, a more built area occupied by administrative concessions and large houses. Every corner deserves a look, but the colonial centre and the eastern part of the city are the most animated.
