Travel Guide Mabanda

Mabanda is a small, still very rural centre in the heart of a sub-region called Buvugalimwe, marked by the last passes of the Mahembe Mountains separating Imbo du Buragane (Makamba province). It is a small village for a long time sleeping, which timidly opens its doors to visitors and offers no special attraction, unless you want to feel in the middle of nowhere. Finally, not entirely, since there are a few acres of the Mugina border crossing and the exchanges with Tanzania are followed.The track that leaves from the centre of Mabanda to the east and joins the RN 11 at the height of Kayogoro, avoiding Makamba, is an option to discover the Buragane, the high place of agasimbo dance but also theatre, during the war, some of the most violent fighting between the government army and the rebellion of CNDD. However, this is not the most appropriate route to reach Rutana: it is poorly maintained and saves neither time nor distance.
