Travel Guide Nyanza-Lac

Like its oldest sister Rumonge, Nyanza-Lac (125 km from Bujumbura, 50 km from Rumonge) is an implantation dating from the pre-colonial period, when East African trade has grown on the coast of Tanganyika. It has been reached from the north after passing Cape Mvugo, where fishing is active. The town is on a promontory overlooking the lake where you can see the coasts of nearby Tanzania.The town is known for its strategic position at the southern end of the country, at the door of the exchange with the Tanzanian giant, and for its commercial animation. But its market is less active and attractive than that of Rumonge. In recent years, the influx of refugees from Tanzania has changed the city's appearance and has increased its population. The living part of the village is located beyond the CAP 3 fork (heading towards Mabanda) on the right. These are the public services, the port and the Burton-Emancipation monument.
