Travel Guide Myohyang Mountain 묘향산

Mount Myohyang or the "Mountain of Mysterious Scent" is one of the most sacred mountains along with Geumgangsan and Baekdusan. It is even said that it was on this mountain that the father of Dan-gun, legendary founder of Ko-Chosŏn, the first Korean kingdom, came down from heaven. Located 160 km north of Pyongyang, Mount Myohyang can be the subject of a day trip from the capital (probably by bus, as the train is not necessarily accessible to tourists).Depending on the time and authorizations available, it is possible to visit the large, almost thousand-year-old Bohyonsa temple, one of the most interesting in the country. The Sangwon Valley offers sublime landscapes with waterfalls, pavilions and hermitages. It is also possible to travel through the Jilsong Valley to the Birobong peak (1,909 m).
