It's probably the most interesting island in the area. It is the5th largest island in the country. Inhabited since the Bronze Age, it is home to ancient artifacts such as the Goindol rocks, which represent the tombs of former rulers. At the summit of Manisan is the place where Korea's founding figure, Dangun, is said to have performed sacrificial rites. It can be reached after a 468-metre ascent and a few steps. This island is a real little open-air museum, where culture takes precedence over beaches. Only Dongmak, in the very south, is worthy of the name.
