This palace has a rich history punctuated by tragic events. Destroyed many times, the " Palace of Radiant Happiness " was first built in 1394. Today, it is accessed through the Gwanghwamun Gate, "the gate of brilliant mutations". In the past, only the king could enter through this gate; other lower dignitaries had to pass through other gates. The palace is structured like a labyrinth, with numerous courtyards and pavilions. Some are magnificent for their structure and fine decoration, such as the throne hall, Geunjeongjeon. It's the largest ancient wooden hall in Korea. Another pavilion not to be missed is the Gyeonghoeru, literally translated as "the pavilion of the happy assembly". With its 48 pillars, it is also one of the largest in the country. Make the most of the experience by renting renting a hanbok (traditional Korean outfit) to visit the palace!
