At 120 km on route 25, the dike can be reached after crossing the tunnel. This dike was built on the Río Chubut, which, thanks to the power station, not only supplies the valley with electricity, but also protects it from flooding. Around this installation has developed a village that welcomes tourists at weekends enjoying the artificial lake Florentino Ameghnino and watchtowers with a panoramic view of the valley. The dam and the lake were named after the Argentinian paleontologist and anthropologist Florentino Ameghino, who is reputed to have the most important collection of fossils of his time.
