Los Arrayanes National Park is actually inserted in the Nahuel Huapí National Park. It is limited to the Quetrihué Peninsula, occupied by an arrayanes forest. It is here that the only concentration of arrayanes in the world can be found: its discovery will only occupy you for a day, but it is worth it. The wood of these hundred-year-old trees, 20 m high, is of a surprising cinnamon colour. The last specimens of this species are particularly well protected and a plank path marks out the route to be followed. This installation prevents damage to the soil on which the trees feed. The comparison with another forest of the same trees, not authorized to the public, proved that no damage had been caused in this way. Legend has it that the vision of this forest inspired Walt Disney when he created Fantasia and Bambi. There are several options to discover this little piece of paradise: one is to walk the 12 kilometres (about 3 hours) from the port of Villa La Angostura to the Arrayanes Forest. If you have time to explore it this way, this is the option we recommend, the trail is beautiful. Many choose to rent a mountain bike, but without being difficult, the trail still has some steep descents. The other option is to take one of the boats that commute to the tip of the peninsula. It is possible to take the boat and come back on foot, or to go there on foot and come back by boat (but be careful anyway, watch the timetables). There is also a boat trip from Puerto Pañuelo, south of the Parque Nacional Nahuel Huapi.
