Impressive neo-Gothic castle built in 1833 as a summer residence for the future emperor and his wife.
This impressive neo-Gothic castle, which has something of a gigantic English manor house, was designed from 1833 onwards as a summer residence for the future Emperor Wilhelm I and his wife Augusta of Saxony-Weimar. Several stars of Prussian architecture contributed to its realization. The plans are by Karl F. Schinkel (author, among others, of the Altes Museum in Berlin). After his death, Ludwig Persius (Orangery in Potsdam) took over the building site. Finally, between 1845 and 1849, J. H. Strack (Siegessäule in Berlin) gave it its present form.
