Museum and store exploring the history of the Dutch-engineered mill, damaged by fire and restored in 1993.

The last survivor of the forty or so windmills in the city at the time of Frederick II, this Dutch-engineered mill was built between 1787 and 1791 and remained in use until 1858. Damaged by fire in 1945, it was restored in 1993 for the city's 1,000th anniversary, and fitted with a new mill. In addition to the pleasant view, visitors can also discover an exhibition exploring the mill's history and see it in action! Breads made with Sanssouci flour are on sale in the museum store.

This mill seemed to us very interesting, and it is in operation. You can buy bread and flour produced there.

As Potsdam was a city of garrison, it was necessary to have mills and this one, close to the palace, said the legend, disturbing Frédéric II. The sucker, called by him, was threatened with expropriation and replied: ' Your Majesty, you could do it if there was not the Berlin Court '. During my passage a flute player interpreted in costumes composed by the same Frédéric, who loved the company of Voltaire. And it was this king who introduced the potato into Prussia with the peasants by keeping fields planted with feet of this excellent legumes that were stolen at night to be replanted. This explains the presence of potatoes on the tomb of the king who is resting close to his dogs.
