The Berlin Marathon takes place every year at the end of September and attracts 40,000 participants. After covering the famous 42.195 km, the winner crosses the Brandenburg Gate to the cheers of the crowd. The Berlin Marathon is internationally renowned as it has the best timekeeping performance with no less than 9 world records! Its rather flat course and mild weather make it the fastest marathon in the world. Needless to say, since 1990, the course has been crossing the former route of the Wall.
