Convent founded by Margrave Irmengard in 1245 as a burial ground for the Margraves of Baden on the outskirts of the city.
The Lichtenthal Monastery is located on the outskirts of the city. Founded by Margrave Irmengard in 1245, it was intended as the burial place of the Margraves of Baden. In the course of its eventful history, the monastery has often been tested by wars and looting, but it has never been destroyed. For 777 years, Cistercian nuns have been praying and working here. Even today, the life of the women is marked by the spirituality of the rule of Saint Benedict. The Gothic chapel houses the tombs of the Margraves of Baden.
