A small town on the banks of the Neckar river, Eberbach dates back to the th century. His fortified enclosure allowed him a time to defend himself, but the city fell in 1361 in the hands of the counts of the comtes counts. It grew gradually, but had to endure the wars in which the Palatinate was involved, famine, floods and epidemics. It was only at the end of the Napoleonic wars that the city grew, to take its current form, with close to 15 000 inhabitants. A walk in its alleys, along its wall of fortifications, can prove to be pleasant. It is also a good starting point for bicycle or walking tours in the surrounding hills.
