Practical information : Going out Hamburg
Timetable
Hamburg is known in Germany as a party destination. Bars and nightclubs are open until very late. In the district of Sankt-Pauli, you will have no trouble finding a club open until dawn.
Budget & Tips
When you go out at night, you can count on the "Imbisse" to eat on the go. Many bars and nightclubs offer "happy hour", a time slot during which drinks - often cocktails - are at reduced prices.
To be booked
If you want to see a show in Hamburg, it is best to book your tickets in advance. Musicals and concerts in the Elbphilharmonie are particularly popular.
Night transport
Hamburg has the advantage of having a subway system that runs all night on weekends. No problem to get home if you go out on a Friday or Saturday night. On weekdays, after 1 a.m., you will have to rely on the night buses. To calculate your route, you can use the HVV application , City Mapper, or simply Google Maps.
Age restrictions
The sale of alcohol is forbidden to minors and entry to nightclubs is often forbidden to them. You may be asked for identification to confirm that you are of age.
What's very local
When going out in Germany, the dress code is rather casual. Whether it's to go to the opera or to a nightclub, it's not necessary to dress up, but there's nothing to stop you from doing so either.
Smokers
In Germany, anti-smoking regulations are the responsibility of the different Länder. This means that the legislation in the 16 states of Germany is quite different. In Hamburg and Berlin, there are many exceptions to the smoking ban. There are many bars and discos where smoking is allowed.
