By car, when you come from Rostock, you can access it from the small town of Ribnitz-Damgarten; when you come from Stralsund, from Barth. There are buses on the peninsula; They can be taken from Rostock, Ribnitz, Stralsund or Barth. A journey on the small peninsula of the coast of Poméranie, composed of the three distinct lands of Darß, Darss and Zingst, is in the eyes of many the most beautiful excursion that can be made on the German Baltic coast. Small strip of land between sea and bay, idyllic landscapes, bucolic atmosphere, small villages of thatched roofs, dunes and small cliffs, perfect beaches: indeed, it is the first destination if you want to go to the coast. The peninsula is 45 km long and connected to the continent at two locations: on the isthmus of Darß, and by bridge between Zingst and Barth. So you can do a circuit very well. Former land of Baltic Fishermen, Darß-Darss-Zingst (formerly 3 islands that were gradually connected) only drew attention to the th century when the fashion of seaside towns appeared in Europe and a group of romantic painters seeking authenticity elected their place of creation, as in France in Barbizon. When you come from Rostock, the first step is the small Village of Wustrow, which is located on the side of the Bay of Saal (Saaler Bodden). The thatched roofs, the small harbour, everything is already idyllic. One can climb at the top of the steeple of the Gothic church (brick), offering a magnificent panorama over the entire region, the sea and the bay. But the clou of the peninsula is the mythical village of Ahrenshoop, pearl of the Darß. It is the village chosen by the painter Paul Müller-Kaempff in the year 1900 to establish a Künstlerkolonie, a colony of artists who, for years, have constantly painted landscapes and cottages. They were quickly followed by writers and musicians… and they include them: Ahrenshoop is as charming as quiet (even less the summer when all the tourists rush there) and, along the Baltic sea, it has one of the most beautiful beaches of the coast, with its famous mini-cliffs. Ahrenshoop was also a mini-Saint-Tropez at the time of the GDR, Berthold Brecht or Anna Seghers, not to mention high-ranking apparatchiks, stayed there regularly. No. 18 of Dorfstrasse was the workshop of Müller-Kaempff. The Kunstkaten (Strandweg 1) is an exhibition space where today's local painters work. It is worth stopping there, there are often interesting exhibitions. Exploring the bay as the sea side is idyllic in Ahrenshoop, and don't forget to go to the beach to the height of the small cliffs, it is one of the most beautiful landscapes in the region. On Darss, if there is less stamp, there is also often less world, and there are beautiful strolls to make (from Perow, nice seaside resort, to the Darsser Ort (at the north-west corner of the peninsula) and its lighthouse for example). In Perow, you can visit the Darss Museum (Waldstrasse 48), which deals with the landscape and geomorphology of the peninsula. Côté Bay, Born has a beautiful wooden church. Zingst finally offers a 12 km long beach and a real seaside resort atmosphere.
