In the midst of the road from Shiraz to Ahvaz, the remains of the ancient capital of Shahpur I (241-272), victorious from Roman legions and Emperor Valérien in 266, are in full nature. Set on a low hill overlooking the river Tchogan, there are still some ruins of the Imperial Palace, the fortifications of the city and a set of well-preserved bas-reliefs.
