After this village, a few kilometres are enough to reach the last bifurcation of Alamut, eagle's nest of the Killers. Very quickly, after a small torrent crossing the road, a sign indicates in English: Hassan Sabah Castle. The small road, always paved, goes back along a creek before getting involved in the sinistres of black gravel hills. And here…, in the distance to the summits, a rock piton cut on the dark flank of the mountain: the castle of the Assassins. A local tradition tells that a prince of the region would have seen his eagle standing on the rocky spur. Realizing the strategic value of the site, the prince raised a castle that he called Aluh Amut or the "eagle lesson".The small road progresses in the heart of an impressive chaos of sliding rocks forming a formidable natural barrier. After a small bridge thrown over a ravine, we finally join a tiny hamlet in the tiny orchards planted between the rocks. The hens run in the beaten dirt alley. On one of the houses, very rustic, is displayed Restoran and hotel (sic)! After this hamlet, a short walk is enough to access the rock. The ground trail runs along the ravine dug by the torrent, to the foot of the impressive spur. From here, a goat trail, rather steep, leads directly to the top of the rock.Take half an hour's walk. If the climb to the ruins of the castle of Alamut is now less difficult, it remains difficult. Irregular steps dug at the rocky spur lead to the ruins of the summit at 1 800 m altitude. In the past, on this very narrow path, the attackers were exposed to defence attacks. Today, only possible rock falls and dérapages are threatening. At the top, clouds can mask the panorama, but by time, the excursion is worth the trip, the site itself being superb. The remains of the famous castle, which stretch over 500 m on the edge of the escarpment, are very modest: A few piles of stones…
