A small village until 1960, then a "new town" within the framework of industrial decentralization in Lower Normandy, Hérouville-Saint-Clair is today the second largest city in Calvados, ahead of Lisieux and behind Caen, with nearly 23,000 inhabitants. The town, which is growing rapidly and is young (38% of the population is under 24 years old), is a major economic hub. The town, the Saint-Vincent chapel, the Beauregard castle (19th century) as well as some farms are the main architectural testimonies of its history. Not to be missed: the Petit Lourdes and the Ornavik park, which holds the secrets of Norman history.
