When you arrive in Cochrane, you are greeted by Chimo, the big polar bear statue that stands at the entrance of the town. And it is the polar bears that attract many visitors here. It must be said that the Polar Bear Habitat, a rehabilitation center for orphans who would not have survived in the wilderness, is located here. The place also serves as a research and education center. If you have the time and means, we suggest the Polar Bear Express, a 300 km train ride along the Abitibi and Moose Rivers to Moosonee, the first Hudson's Bay Company post built in 1673.
