West of Toronto, in the Kitchener-Waterloo region, this Mennonite village is a continuation of the past. Many still travel here by horse and buggy and remain faithful to their strict dark clothing. They have made a conscious decision to live according to the traditions and values of the early 19th century. Their beautiful farms, along the surrounding roads, are models of efficiency. But St. Jacobs is also a shopping district and a very friendly village with nice boutiques, good little restaurants, gourmet and artisan products, and many cultural activities. Don't miss its famous farmers' market.
