It's a quiet little Bessin village with a strong maritime character. Its fleet of trawlers, specialized in inshore fishing (fresh fishing), and its geographical location, make it one of the Mecca's of scallop fishing. Situated between the D-Day beaches of Utah and Omaha Beach, just a stone's throw from the Pointe du Hoc, Grandcamp has remained in the hearts of the Rangers as their home away from home. Its remoteness on the border between Calvados and La Manche, which did not put off Georges Seurat, Alexandre Dumas or Emile Zola in the 19th century, has preserved it somewhat from the influences of modern tourism.
