The arrival of the train and the opening of the Beemer Hotel marked the birth of tourism in Roberval in 1888. This famous hotel welcomed rich Americans for a fishing trip, the spearhead of the company headed by Horace Jansen Beemer. This tourist empire came to an end in 1908 when the hotel burned down. Today, Roberval owes its fame to the Traversée internationale du lac Saint-Jean. Cultural, family and sports activities surround this prestigious open water swimming marathon. The Winter Festival with its snowmobile competitions and the Village sur Glace are two events that are well worth a visit.
