The village of Plaisance is located on Highway 148 between Papineauville and the town of Thurso. It is, among other things, the gateway to Plaisance National Park, a peninsula stretching into the Ottawa River just across the river from the neighbouring province of Ontario. In the middle of the village, at the flashing light, turn left on Montée Papineau. About 2 km further on, turn left again on chemin Malo which leads directly to the Chutes de Plaisance historic site. With a 67-metre drop in elevation, the falls witnessed the building of the first industrial village in the region, North Nation Mills, which has now disappeared.
