Now a peaceful village, it was once the scene of a battle considered to be the official beginning of the Patriots' Rebellion. A monument dedicated to the Patriots recalls their victory over Colonel Gore's troops in 1837. For the 150th anniversary of the Rebellion, a plaque was affixed in 1987, with these words from René Lévesque: "They fought for the national recognition of our country, for its political freedom and for a democratic system of government. Next door, the 18th century church houses the Liberty Bell which called the Patriots to battle. Don't forget to visit the National House of Patriots.
