The regional capital of Lanaudière, this city of industry, culture and services was founded in the 1820s by Barthélémy Joliette. In the summer, it hosts the largest classical music festival in the country, the Festival de Lanaudière. Place Bourget, located in the heart of downtown, is home to many businesses, restaurants and events. On Manseau Boulevard and Notre-Dame Street, just a few steps from Place Bourget, there are several good places to go for a coffee break, a drink or a good meal. In February, Joliette hosts the Festi-Glace with its huge skating rink, the longest on the river in Quebec.
