Of all the interior cities in the province, Nelson is perhaps the most attractive, with its 19th century architecture still intact. More than 10,000 residents are fortunate to enjoy a historic downtown area that has retained its Victorian style. Known as the "Queen City" for over 100 years, there are no fewer than 350 historic buildings. Until 1900, the city was considered the most important between Winnipeg and Vancouver. The proximity of the lakes, the Selkirk Mountains and the rivers attracted an ever-increasing number of artists to Nelson, who found inspiration and settled here.
