The small island was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981, 97 years after the last Haida families abandoned their homes. Some vestiges remain such as the totems, some traditional houses... The indigenous villages, today valued within the heritage, can be visited to understand the history of these peoples. In this luxuriant vegetation, including a terrestrial and an underwater forest, the territory shelters an exceptional fauna and flora. Gwaii Haanas represents 138 islands out of the 150 of the archipelago, nicknamed the "Islands of Beauty". Ideal for nature lovers.
