Home to the Pacheedaht Indian Nation (which poetically means "people of the sea foam"), this small coastal town of less than 200 people, primarily dependent on fishing and forestry, is popular with hikers who end their journey on the famous West Coast Trail at Gordon River, just 5 km north. This ancient trail was a refuge for shipwrecked sailors along the island's coast and is now protected within Pacific Rim National Park. Don't miss the Red Creek Fir, one of the tallest and widest Douglas Firs in Canada.
