Established in 1920 on either side of the Banff-Windermere Highway (now Highway 93), the park has two entrances: one from Radium Hot Springs, British Columbia, on Highway 95, and the other from Castle Junction, Alberta, between Lake Louise and Banff on the Trans-Canada Highway. Although not as popular as its neighbouring parks, Kootenay National Park is a beautiful oasis of peace and nature where wildlife viewing, hiking and biking are easily accessible. On one side, the Vermilion River Valley with its glaciers, and on the other, the Kootenay River where cacti grow!
