At the foot of the Three Sisters, in the Bow Valley, 28 km east of Banff, Canmore, gateway to Kananaskis Country, has seen its population triple in 20 years. Is it because it has been the setting for some great movies(Legends of Autumn, Snow Dogs and Shanghai Noon)? Or for its location in the heart of the Rockies, where it is overshadowed by gleaming Banff, therefore less popular and more affordable? Surrounded by mountains, Canmore is famous for its sled dogs in winter and its numerous trails for hiking all year round (unlike Banff, the entrance is free). Buses (Roam Transit) are also free within the town.
