Impfondo is the capital of the Likouala district, on the same latitude as Ouesso. It can be reached by a long and difficult runway, by boat or by plane. The town, which lies on the banks of the Oubangui River, is crossed by a 135 km road, unique in this marshy region and a reminder of a long-standing Brazilian-Congolese cooperation. The outskirts of the city are home to a multitude of indigenous communities, more or less integrated depending on their proximity to the city and trade with the Bantus. The natives traditionally set up temporary hunting camps, with huts made of leaves and branches.
