Jérémie, to the southwest of Port au Prince, was founded in 1756. Its port has existed since 1807, famous for the trade in cocoa, coffee, cane sugar, bananas, mangoes… City of poets and writers, it is the birthplace of Alexander Dumas's father. Its centre is organized around the charming Dumas Square and its magnificent red brick cathedral. The old houses of St. Léger-Pierre-Louis Street are beautiful but décrépies. The rest of the city extends along the sea, enjoying the calm of this blue immensity. The surrounding area is green and well irrigated.
