Puerto Williams, once a simple group of military barracks, has recently become a mandatory passage point for cruises to Antarctica. Its name was Puerto Luisa until 1956; it was changed in homage to Juan Williams, who seized the Strait of Magellan for Chile in 1843. The Yamanas called the site, Uspashum. Located on the banks of the Beagle Channel, this large town of 2,200 inhabitants has some infrastructure to accommodate travellers. Its charm lies of course in its geographical location: since 2019, it is the southernmost town in the world. Stroll in the surrounding area to enjoy landscapes from the end of the world.
